When Screening Is Needed

When hiring contractors and builders, it is prudent to investigate. A common scenario that was taking place in 2008, as the real estate markets slid off a cliff, was that many contractors and homeowners were left holding the ball on rather large investment properties and other financial commitments that had made sense in boom times. These broke contractors were then using money from their upcoming jobs to cover their personal bills, with the assumption they could pay it back by working extra or cutting costs (and sometimes corners!).
